In line with the 5th African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAAE) Conference in Addis Abeba, PARI hosted a side event titled Innovation for Agricultural Growth and Food Security and Nutrition in Africa.

A scholarly discussion, led by Dr. Oliver Kirui, with a panel of young agricultural scientists from around Africa, was held in order to introduce emerging research agenda on innovation, methodological issues, and policies.

Objectives of the session were

  • to identify some of the beneficial innovations in the agricultural sector in Africa
  • to explore the emerging methodological issues on innovation assessment.

The welcome address was held by Prof. Dr. Joachim von Braun. This was followed by a statement from Dr. Bekele Shiferaw, Lead Evaluation Specialist and Coordinator of the Agriculture, Environment, and Climate Change Independent Evaluation Group of the World Bank.
