Virtual ZEF-Zoom Colloquium with Heike Baumüller and Zaneta Kubik

This study was designed to monitor the early impacts of Covid-19 pandemic and related containment measures introduced by the governments on the operations of the food and beverage sector in four African countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. The data was collected in two rounds and covers 897 randomly selected registered firms. The analysis focuses on selected aspects of firms’ operations, including set of products, sourcing and costs, imports and exports, and employment. We further disaggregate the analysis by firms’ size, ownership and industry type to capture the heterogeneous effects of the pandemic and related measures on the food and beverage sector.
