According to a review of digital agriculture platforms in smallholder production systems in low- and middle-income countries, the growth in these platforms has been particularly fast in Africa. Kenya and Nigeria have emerged as hotspots in this regard. The main objective of this study is to identify and carry out an in-depth study of one of the main digital platforms in Kenya. The specific objectives include to identify the drivers of different types of digital platforms and to document the distributional effects of digital agriculture platforms. The focuses on Twiga Foods is one example of such platforms. The tech-enabled food distribution company based in Nairobi that connects smallholder farmers to Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) retailers in Kenya’s urban centres.
